Follow your guide…
My name is Yamina, a local guide in the beautiful city of Lyon. Originally from a small town near Lyon, I spent almost 10 years in the UK studying History, Religions, and Philosophy. During my time there, I developed a keen interest in obscure cults, pagan beliefs, and symbolism, fascinated by their legends and storytelling.
Returning to Lyon, I now reside in the picturesque area of La Croix Rousse. My time abroad has deepened my appreciation for French culture, particularly Lyon’s rich culinary offerings and vibrant local markets. Lyon’s unique position at the crossroads of France and Europe is reflected in its architecture and cuisine.
I invite you to join me on one of my tours to discover Lyon’s history, architecture, cuisine, and culture. I am happy to customize a tour to suit your preferences.

Testimonials
A delightful morning with Yamina. She is charming, warm and witty and easily engaged with our group of 4. We learned the history of the La Croix Rousse neighborhood and its place in the gastronomy of Lyon. We strolled through the neighborhood and visited the farmers market, a charcuterie/butcher, a boulangerie, a fromagerie, and a shop selling the Praluline (local prink praline brioche) – with our purchases we stopped in a cafe for a class of wine and a delicious picnic. A perfect tour with Yamina!!!!
Yamina did a great job of introducing us to the Croix Rousse area – and to the history of silk production and design. It was way more than we expected and included a wonderful lunch in a typical place high stop a hill. We high recommend Yamina.
Yamina was amazing on our tour of Lyon! She was so knowledgeable and her passion of Lyon and its history was evident! She was very accommodating of all of our needs! She went above and beyond, and we would highly recommend her! Settings.

Why is Lyon Called Lyon ?
Lyon’s name boasts a rich history, morphing over centuries. Originally established in antiquity, it was known as “Lugdunum.” The exact origin of this name remains debated by scholars. Some believe it stems from the Celtic words “Lug” (meaning light) and “dunum” (referring to a hill). An alternative theory suggests it derives from “Lougon” (meaning crow) and “dounon” (referring to a high place).
Over time, the pronunciation of the city’s name shifted. During the Middle Ages, it transitioned to “Lugdon” and then “Luon.” Finally, by the 13th century, the name we recognize today, “Lyon,” emerged.
