Let me guide you

Yamina

The Bellecour square. This square is one of the oldest in Lyon, dating from the sixteen century. Named after the religious order who had their coventry there, the square is now the quintessence of XIX Century French architecture, a subtle mix of neo byzantine and  renaissance style. Locals love having their lunch break there either eating their lunches in one of the numerous benches or enjoying a glass of wine in one of the restaurant terrasses. It is the best way to enjoy this beautiful square made of white stones in which the sun reflects.

visting Lyon

Begin your adventure at Bellecour square

Start your journey at the heart of Lyon, the grand Bellecour Square. Take a moment to admire the architectural majesty of the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) and the Cathédrale Saint-Jean. Snap some photos in front of the Astronomical Clock, a marvel of engineering that shows the movement of the sun and moon. Feeling peckish? Grab a coffee and croissant at a charming café lining the square, fuelling up before you embark on your adventure.

Pedal Through Time on The Saône

Leaving Bellecour, head to the banks of the Saône River. Here, Lyon’s historic heart unfolds. The river’s gentle flow reflects the relaxe vibes of Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cycle past the amazing Renaissance buildings, checking out all the cool details on places like the Hôtel de Gadagne (now museums packed with Lyon’s history). Don’t miss the hidden traboules – narrow passageways that wind through courtyards, offering a peek into Lyon’s secret past.

A moment of tranquility in parc de la tête d’or.

After immersing yourself in the past, escape the city’s buzz and find a haven of peace in Parc de la Tête d’Or, Lyon’s biggest urban park. Breathe in the fresh air as you cycle through lush gardens with vibrant flowers. Spot exotic animals at the zoo, fun for both children and adults alike. Find a shady spot under a tree and enjoy a picnic lunch (pack your own basket or grab some goodies from a nearby bakery) – a perfect way to recharge for the next part of your journey.

Shift Gears on the Rhone : Witness modernity

Feeling refreshed? Hop back on your bike and head to the banks of the Rhône River. Here, Lyon sheds its historic cloak and embraces its modern side. See the architectural transformation as you cycle along the Confluence district. Striking contemporary buildings like the Musée des Confluences (a museum of natural history and anthropology in a futuristic diamond-shaped building) will blow your mind. Feel the city’s energy in its busy squares and trendy cafés – a stark contrast to the serenity of Old Lyon.

Back to Bellecour With New found Appreciation

As you make your way back to Bellecour Square, take a moment to reflect on the contrasting faces of Lyon you’ve seen. From the timeworn beauty of Vieux Lyon to the sleek lines of the Confluence district, the city offers a unique blend of history and innovation. Explore further on foot if you have time, or simply relax at a cafe, sip some local wine, and reminisce about your epic adventure.

Another stunning view surrounded by trees and grass. It is the ideal place for an improvised picnic. Located on the hill of St Just (Accessible with the funicular) this place is not well known so you will find yourself almost alone. A must visit in summer to cool down and get away from the city but also to enjoy the best sunset in Lyon.

Renting a bike and helmet is easy throughout the city. This route is just a suggestion – feel free to create your own itinerary based on what you like! We provide a map highlighting historical gems, cafes, and restaurants, empowering you to craft a personalized Lyon adventure. So, what are you waiting for?
